Subject: Single use plastic ban
Aloha!
I just wanted to take some time to share my reasons for supporting the bill to ban the use of single use plastics
locally.
I understand that many oppose this bill due to the higher cost of sustainable products, however I strongly
believe this is a non issue for 2 reasons.
1. Sustainable Island Products has a wide variety of very cost effective to-go products. I use them at my
company, for example when you bryce out the same size one time use cups you can purchase at costco versus
the Sustainable Island Products cups, the price difference is a mere 2 cents per cup. While this may add up over
time it brings me to my next point.
2. The additional cost can always be passed on the the consumer. If prices need to be adjusted that can simply
be explained to the customer as a point of taking care of our aina, and you would be hard pressed to find a
consumer that argues that is a stupid reason. Everyone here loves our home and many are dependent upon it for
the tourism that drives our economy. Tourists dont want to see trash floating in the water when they go for a
snorkel or sit on rubbish while at the beach. As a local consumer, I would be more than happy to absorb the
cost.
