Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 885, reports as follows:
Communication No. 885, submitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated May 10, 2016, nominates Mark
Van Perris to the Kailua Village Design Commission, to fill a position representing property owners. If
confirmed, he would serve the remainder of a three-year term to end December 31, 2017, replacing
Adam Broderson for a term to expire December 31, 2017.
Mr. Van Perris was introduced by Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi.
Speaking by videoconference from Kona, Mr. Van Pernis said he felt he has a strong understanding of
Kailua-Kona, that he has worked there all of his adult life. He said he is prepared to serve, has the time,
and is ready to go.
Ms. Eoff, Ms. David, Mr. Kanuha, and Mr. Ilagan all thanked Mr. Van Pernis for his willingness to
serve on the commission. In addition, Ms. Eoff and Ms. David praised the nominee's knowledge of the
area and Mr. Kanuha appreciated that Mr. Van Pernis said he had the time to serve on the commission.
Mr. Van Pernis was informed that he is not required to be present for Council confirmation.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 885, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mark Van Pernis to the Kailua Village Design
Commission.
