Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 886, reports as follows:
Communication No. 886, submitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated May 10, 2016, nominates Eddie
K. Akau to the South Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee. If confirmed, he would
serve a four-year term.
Mr. Akau was introduced by Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi. Speaking by
videoconference from Kona, he said his family has lived in Kawaihae for hundreds of years, and that he
hoped to bring to the committee his knowledge of the area and the history of the place.
Ms. Wille said she was grateful to Mr. Akau for stepping up to serve. She noted that the Action
Committee had a full slate of members for the first time in years.
Mr. Akau was informed that he is not required to be present for Council confirmation.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 886, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Eddie K. Akau to the South Kohala Community
Development Plan Action Committee.
