WHEREAS, the West Hawaii Kiwanis Club and the committee of
Parents for Parks are corroborating to create a toddler playground
at the Kailua-Kona Old Airport Park; and
WHEREAS, plans have been submitted and approved by the
American Disabilities Association, the playground equipment has
been ordered, and the initial site work has begun; and
WHEREAS, the projected completion date for the playground,
with community help, will be by July 1993; and
WHEREAS, after input from the community, the name Menehune
Playground has been'chosen for the toddler park; and
WHEREAS, although there is a Menehune Park in Hilo, it is
felt that the'Menehune Playground in Kailua-Kona would be
different enough so as not to be confused with the park in Hilo.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the Honorable Mayor -.Stephen K. Yamashiro acknowledge
by ordinance, the toddler park at the Kailua-Kona Old Airport as
Menehune Playground.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent
to the Honorable Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, the County Department
of Parks & Recreation Director George Yoshida, and the West Hawaii
Kiwanis Club.
