RESOLUTION NO. 559 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO TO
ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO PERSONNEL TRAINING FOR END-OF-
LIFE CARE.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides support,
guidance, and compassionate end-of-life care; and
WHEREAS, hospice physicians, nurses, social workers, and spiritual counselors must
receive extensive skills development in order to provide quality care during the decline of a
patient's life; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is able to provide the foundational training for staff, but to
address the unique challenges of caring for the East Hawai`i region, additional enrichment and
education is needed to enhance the team's ability to care for patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funding assistance to cover consulting fees
for personnel training, materials, and other incidentals; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo for
expenses related to personnel training for end-of-life care; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
