SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Schedules for Private Streets
In 1973 and again in 1988 and 1995, the State legislature enacted changes to the law to enable
the counties to impose and enforce traffic regulations on private streets County ordinance 95-
129, effective November 9, 1995, was subsequently amended by ordinance number 98 97,
effective September 25, 1998, to clarify the requirements for implementing the State legislation
on County of Hawaii streets.
The purpose of the proposed amendment is to provide a clear delineation of traffic regulations
between county streets and private streets. This amendment will delete references to traffic
regulations on private streets that now exist in the code and readopt them in article 11, schedules
for private streets.
