Dear Chairman Kanuha and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Paul Paiva, of Council District 2 to the County of
Hawaii Police Commission. Mr. Paiva is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i. He is presently
employed by the University of Hawai'i at Hilo as a Chief Ranger. From 2006 to 2010,
he was employed by Keck Observatory as a Night Attendant Supervisor. Mr. Paiva was
employed by the Hawai'i Fire Department from 1981 - 2006, where he retired as a
Battalion Chief after 25 years of service. He is also a Retired Commander of 29 years
with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.
Mr. Paiva was a member of the State Health Planning & Development Agency, Hawai'i
County Subarea Health Planning Council from 2002 — 2006. He states that he is not
affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will fill a vacant term to end on
December 31, 2019.
