RE: THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE KAHUWAI PROJECT AND THE NANAWALE
REZONING,98-27,28,29
THIS IS A REQUEST FOR A RULING AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF THE IMPACT OF THE KAHUWAI
EXPERIMENTAL PAPAYA PROJECT ON THE NANAWALE ESTATES SUBDIVISION, THE PROPOSED
REZONING APPLICATIONS, AND THE USE OF COUNTY AND PRIVATE ROADS WITHIN THE
NANAWALE SUBDIVISION.
THIS IS A REQUEST FOR THESE ISSUES TO BE RESEARCHED AND CONSIDERED AND INCLUDED IN
THE AMENDED COUNTY PLANNING BACKGROUND REPORT TO BE AVAILABLE ONE WEEK
BEFORE THE NEXT PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING NOW SCHEDULED ON APRIL 16,1999.
THIS REQUEST ALSO ASKS THAT THIS INFORMATION BE ADDED TO THE ORIGINAL REPORTS ON
REZ 98-27,28,29, AS PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED.
THE FOLLOWING SHALL BE CONSIDERED
I.Impact is not just an issue of 300 feet, it is a matter of overall COMMUNITY PLANNING, when STATE,
FEDERAL, and COUNTY FUNDS are being used to create a major agricultural industry that affects the entire area,
like the GEOTHERMAL PROJECT.
2.Bishop Estate has determined that they will not allow any intermediate packing facilities on their leased lands,
thereby opening up the proposed rezoned areas of Nanawale to commercial agriculture use, in direct conflict with
the articles of incorporation and the by laws of the Nanawale Assoc. and the original promises and intentions of the
developers of Nanawale Corp.
3. The consultant hired by the County for Kahuwai project report designated Nanawale county roads as the
thoroughfare from Kahuwai , ultimately to the Keaau papaya packing facility. This route of destination determines the
need for this entire project to be considered as an impact on the whole of the Nanawale Subdivision.
4. The ultimate production of all two thousand acres of the Kahuwai Experimental Papaya Project must be used as
the standard for determining impact on the surrounding area.
