We do not need another taskforce. We know the issues. We need action. If your councilmembers did not do their research I suggest by looking at what many other cities across the US have done to partially or completely ban the use of polystyrene and use their legislation as example: • New York City (and several other cities in New York) • Takoma Park, MD • Seattle, Washington • Washington DC • Miami Beach, FL • Freeport, Maine • Portland, Maine • Nantucket(City& County), Massachusetts • Minneapolis, Minnesota • Portland, Oregon(and several other Oregon cities) • Los Angeles County and San Francisco, California(and many other cities and counties in CA) There are many viable alternatives to the petrochemical based products - which do not decompose properly in the environment and pose a serious risk, including death,to the wildlife(many of which are endangered) who ingest it. Go talk to SUISAN, Island Naturals and the dozens of other businesses who have made the switch to sustainable and responsible food packaging materials. Many citizens will boycott those businesses who do not voluntarily make the switch, so by dragging this out YOU are responsible for their loss of business. Do not support Resolution 565.
