Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 950, reports as follows:
Communication No. 950, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated July 14, 2016, nominates
Mr. Hugh Y. Ono, of Council District 3 to the Hawai`i County Salary Commission.
Mr. Ono was introduced by Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, and requested
Council's favorable action of this appointment. Ms. Shigemura stated that if Mr. Ono is confirmed, he
would fill a vacant term that will expire on December 31, 2020, and that he is not affiliated with any
political party.
Nominee Ono was present and expressed that it would be an honor and privilege to serve and he is eager
to be part of the Salary Commission. Several Council Members spoke in favor of his nomination.
Chair Eoff informed Mr. Ono that he did not need to appear before the full Council for confirmation and
thanked him for his willingness to serve.
Pursuant to Section 13-28 of the Hawai`i County Charter, there shall be a salary commission, which
shall consist of nine members, appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 950, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Hugh Y. Ono to the Hawai`i County Salary
Commission.
