My name is Fred Galdones and I am hex` today to testify in support of
the above -named applications at Kaupul- u. I represent the ILWU, whic':z
consists of over 5,000 members in the ,11,inty of Hawaii.

In looking at economic opportunities, , !so feel that there needs to
be a delicate balance between the prot:- ,"CJ,on of our precious resources
that make Hawaii a special place.
In reviewing the proposal at Kaupulet:r , feel very comfortable and
supportive of their project that will covide much needed employment
opportunities as well as protect the :_wK�ortant resources at the site.
It is my understanding that along will, - his proposal, 235 acres will be
set aside as a resource ianagement axe -.l which will be part of a inte-
grated approach at protecting the coa: ,'.Line and other areas with an
active management plan. Much of the rla'^' was developed talking with
kupuna, other families and users from ta.e area which resulted in the
proposed Integrated Resources Management Plan. The setting aside of

235 acres alone is unprecedented in an, other development and I feel
will go a long way in preserving a pc',rt of Hawaii for future genera-
tions to enjoy.
Overall, we feel that this is an exceptional project for the Big
Island and encourage your full support not only for the job market,
but because they have done their h=e work and will provide the
stewardship needed to protect the resovaces of the area,
