RESOLUTION NO. 596 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAMAKUA YOUTH
FOUNDATION INC. FOR THE MULTICULTURAL AWARENESS PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Hamakua Youth Foundation Inc. (HYF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit,
community-based organization dedicated to creating a nurturing, youth-service program for
youth starting from age ten that teaches environmental sustainability and stewardship, Hawaiian
culture and arts, and youth leadership, as well as connecting youth and their families with social
service agencies; and
WHEREAS, working with Honoka`a High and Intermediate School, HYF plans to
conduct an experiential, two-year Multicultural Awareness Program for youth that will explore
the roots, food, and music of the various cultures on the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of each culture will include the preparation of an authentic
meal and a celebration of contemporary music related to that culture; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Hamakua Youth Foundation Inc. for
cultural materials, food and kitchen supplies, transportation for excursions, arts and crafts
supplies, and other expenses associated with the Multicultural Awareness Program; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and the Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
