RESOLUTION NO. 605 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO PORTABLE
GENERATOR/LIGHT UNITS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SERVICE
HAMAKUA AND NORTH HILO.
WHEREAS, the Police Department has identified the need for two portable
generator/light units; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i has been approached by the community requesting
that DUI (driving under the influence) roadblocks be conducted at various locations in Hamakua
and North Hilo; and
WHEREAS, lighting is essential during roadblocks to help ensure the safety of the
officers and the public; and
WHEREAS, areas available with streetlights along Highway 19 are limited and
separated by long distances; and
WHEREAS, portable generator/light units would allow for more roadblock locations in
Hamakua and North Hilo; and
WHEREAS, portable generator/light units would also be helpful for other purposes, such
as securing crime scenes overnight, providing lighting at the scene of a critical traffic accident,
or lighting for other emergencies in an area with minimal lighting; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Police Department for the purchase of two portable generator/light units; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of Police and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
