RE: Resolution 592-16 Related to Postponing Council Action on Rezoning Applications in the Hamakua
District Until the Hamakua Community Development Plan is Adopted
Chair Ilagan and Members of the County Planning Committee:
Thank you for this opportunity to support Resolution 592-16. My name is Akiko Masuda and I live in
Wailea, and am President of the Wailea Village Historic Preservation Community.
In 2008, before the Hamakua Community Development planning process began, residents of
Wailea/Chin Chuck Road/Kaiwiki Homestead/Hakalau convened to state our values and create a vision
for our community's future. We were clear and steadfast, and ready to embrace the CDP process that
followed. We've consistently contributed to this process and are eager for its culmination, i.e., adoption
as a County ordinance.
I ask that you honor the community voice contained within the CDP. Rezoning decisions made by the
Council have long-term consequences. We are so close (months, not years)to its adoption. Please pause
to enable the community voice to be heard. Postpone Council action on rezoning applications until the
CDP is adopted.
Again, I thank you for your consideration and your respect for the community.
