In an effort to better accomplish the objective of this resolution,to have stakeholders in this issue"identify solutions addressing the production and distribution of environmentally friendly products and packaging to improve and reduce product and packaging waste from entering our ocean",I support the amendments introduced by Council Member Margaret Wille. Amendments in Communication 944.14 identify and include important stakeholders relevant to this issue, including individuals with expert familiarity of the impacts of non-sustainable packaging options to Hawai`i's marine ecosystems and experts with knowledge on how other locales have successfully dealt with similar challenges. These voices in the stakeholder conversation could bring added insight and potentially innovative solutions that may not develop from the current Task Force composition. Furthermore, should the amendments in Communication 944.14 not be accepted,I would be in opposition to Resolution 565,D2,which in it's current form does not adequately represent the key stakeholder voices that need to be heard in this important conversation. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, Dr.Douglas McCauley Professor of Biology,UC Santa Barbara Rqg . 21 comm. No. Ref. To: 1 CO k Ref, Dote AUG 1 7 2016 1
