Re: Communication from Constituent Regarding Delays in Komohana Street
Resurfacing
I received the attached letter from a constituent regarding concerns stemming from the delays in
the Komohana Street Resurfacing Project. I request that this letter be included on the upcoming
Public Works Committee meeting agenda wherein the Committee will be discussing this issue.

Dear Mr. Chung,
I am writing out of concern for the safety of my patients and for the safety of the general public.
As you know, a major road improvement and resurfacing project on Komohana Street remains
incomplete. This project has inevitably resulted in lane closures and altered routing of traffic. At
times traffic cones have resulted in ambiguous routing as turn lanes have been converted to travel
lanes. Barricades have resulted in limited sight lines especially to drivers who are attempting to
exit Puuhonu Way onto Komohana Street. In addition, one of the exits to the upper level of our
parking lot has been closed which results in increased congestion at other outlets.
Understandably, these undesirable temporary changes are necessary in order for the road project
to proceed. However, my concern arises from the apparent lack of progress over the past several
weeks. Work crews have remained conspicuously absent on bright sunny days. There does not
appear to be any motivation to complete the project in a timely manner despite the potential risk
of a serious life threatening accident. These hazardous conditions were knowingly and
voluntarily created with no apparent effort to mitigate the duration of exposure to risk.
I understand that there may be other prevailing factors which a private citizen such as myself are
not aware of. Nevertheless, I hope that the County remains cognizant of the potential liabilities
and dangers which exist in this situation.
