I am Brad Kurokawa, a Honomu resident. I would like to provide testimony in support of Hawaii County acquiring Hakalau Point through the PONC program. While I testify as a private individual I share from a diverse background as a practicing licensed landscape architect, former deputy Planning director, current chair of the Hamakua Community Development Steering committee and mostly as a concerned community advocate. I do not represent the Hamakua CDP steering committee but I can say that I think I have a pretty good feel for the desires of the broader Hamakua-North & South Hilo coast region and specifically the Hakalau/Wailea community. The Hakalau Point parcel is an important and unique site. You will hear more detailed testimony and the reasons are clearly documented in the Mayor's Report to the Council, reflecting the PONC commission recommendations. Hakalau Point is breathtakingly beautiful scenic view point with an amazing rich, diverse cultural history. It is a link to our community's past heritage and is primed to serve as positive catalyst for continued future community engagement. Ecologically and environmentally, it is sensitive being located on the pall edge, the intersection of ocean, stream and an established community. Hakalau Point is prime open space. The site is extremely visible to the general public(within the view shed of Mamalahoa Belt Highway)with a high community profile and has provided public access for generations. Our community is committed, inspired and galvanized to malama this unique land for the greater community good. Please support County action to acquire Hakalau Point! Mahalo aan• . arm Aloha for your consideration and support, Brad Kurokawa Community advocate and concerned citizen P. O.
