I have unfortunately witnessed poor patient outcomes due to lack of appropriate personal and resources. Many of these patient outcomes have been sad and tragic and would have been completely avoidable with a town with sufficient facilities. In 2015, when the Kona Hospital closed their skilled nursing facility, other skilled nursing facilities quickly became overwhelmed and the additional overflow left outpatient rehabilitation clinics with the task of trying to rehabilitate patients who would have experienced better recoveries within appropriate senior housing and daily rehabilitative facilities. I am writing in full support of the fee exemptions requested by Hualalai Kai. Attracting healthcare providers and funding healthcare initiatives is very difficult in Kona. We do not need any additional barriers to the construction and funding of a much needed Skilled Nursing Facility in Kona. r Please contact me directly with any questions.
