RESOLUTION NO. 624 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO THE OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING
ATTORNEY TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE SAFE DATES
PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, teen-dating abuse has become extremely common with high school and
middle school students within all communities on Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, Safe Dates is a ten-session program that targets attitudes and behaviors
associated with dating abuse and violence; and
WHEREAS, this program will be used in high schools to provide students with
information on teen-dating violence in order to encourage healthy relationships in teens and
promote safe dating; and
WHEREAS, funds are needed for expenses related to the Safe Dates program, including
but not limited to the renewal of online curriculum, classroom and training supplies, and
expenses for a poster contest and related projects; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is to improve the
quality of life on the Big Island by encouraging and promoting crime prevention and early
intervention initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to
the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for expenses related to the Safe Dates program to help
stop the growing epidemic of teen-dating abuse; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance
is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
