RESOLUTION NO. 1 G
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS
HAWAII INC. TO ASSIST EAST HAWAII ATHLETES WITH TRAVEL EXPENSES
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HOLIDAY CLASSIC GAMES ON OAHU.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities improve their quality of life
through sports; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. helps participants through athletic training
to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and skill, experience joy, and participate in the
sharing of gifts and friendship with their families, each other, and their community; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. hosts the annual Holiday Classic games on
Oahu where over 185 athletes, partners, and coaches from Hawai`i Island travel to compete
against their peers, providing athletes the opportunity to experience new friendships, team
camaraderie, family pride, success, and victory; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is seeking financial assistance to defray
travel expenses for the athletes of Special Olympics East Hawai`i to participate in the Holiday
Classic games on O`ahu; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. to
assist East Hawai`i athletes with travel expenses to participate in the Holiday Classic games on
O'ahu; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance,and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
