RESOLUTION NO. 638 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIIAN
SANCTUARY, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS
SUSTAINABLE FARMING CLASSES: PLANT ALOHA.
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which is a
44-acre eco-rejuvenation center dedicated to providing experimental education in the areas of
health and wellness, social permaculture, leadership, sustainability, and personal and collective
growth; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary, Inc., is initiating a project known as "Sustainable
Farming Classes: Plant Aloha," which will provide a year-long series of classes on sustainable
farming systems, including permaculture, Korean natural farming, JADAM organic farming, and
traditional native Hawaiian cultural planting methods; and
WHEREAS, the goal of this educational series is to encourage sustainable farming
practices in alignment with Native Hawaiian cultural protocol and education, as well as the
Hawai`i's Aloha+ Challenge Sustainability Program goal that"20-30% of all food consumed to
be produced locally" by the year 2030, to boost Hawai`i's prominence and commitment to
sustainability and to be a recognized leader in sustainability; and
WHEREAS, to offer"Sustainable Farming Classes: Plant Aloha" at no charge to
participants, Hawaiian Sanctuary is seeking funding to assist with expenses related to its
sustainable farming classes, travel and operational costs,permaculture supplies, printed
materials, and advertising; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaiian Sanctuary, Inc., to
assist with expenses relating to its Sustainable Farming Classes: Plant Aloha; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
