REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY <br />AND MASS TRANSIT <br />DATE: September 7, 2016 Re: Comm. No. 1009 <br />PLACE.: Council Chambers <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 1:38 p.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Comm. No. 1009, reports as <br />follows: <br />Communication No. 1009, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated August 15, 2016, requests <br />review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mc David Greenwell of Council District 9 <br />to the County of Hawaii Liquor Commission. <br />After the close of public testimony, County Clerk, Stewart Maeda, read Comm. No. 1009 into the <br />record, preceding a motion made by Ms. David and seconded by Ms. buff to approve the nomination. <br />Department of Liquor Control Director Gerald Takase introduced and provided background information <br />on Nominee Greenwell, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this <br />appointment. <br />Mr. David Greenwell is employed by the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture as an <br />irrigation worker. He previously served a full term as a member of the 1-lawai'i County Water Board. <br />Mr. Greenwell is a Boy Scouts of America Leader, and a board member of the Waimea Community <br />Association. He states that he is a member of the Republican Party, if confirmed, he will fill a vacant <br />term to end December 31, 2020. <br />Following his introduction, Mr. Greenwell stated that he looks forward to being a part of the Liquor <br />Commission, given his experience with the Water Board. He continued to share that he is willing to <br />learn, serve, and show up. <br />Ms. Wille urged support for this nomination, as Mr. Greenwell is her constituent and she was able to <br />witness Mr. Greenwell's capabilities, commitment and dedication to his community through his <br />involvement with the Waimea Community Association. Your Committee agreed that Mr. Greenwell is <br />not required to appear at final confirmation before the full Council, but was extended the invitation to <br />attended if so desired. <br />PSMTC Report No. 22 <br />
