No. 1009 PLACE.: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 1:38 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Comm. No. 1009, reports as follows: Communication No. 1009, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated August 15, 2016, requests review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Mc David Greenwell of Council District 9 to the County of Hawaii Liquor Commission. After the close of public testimony, County Clerk, Stewart Maeda, read Comm. No. 1009 into the record, preceding a motion made by Ms. David and seconded by Ms. buff to approve the nomination. Department of Liquor Control Director Gerald Takase introduced and provided background information on Nominee Greenwell, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. Mr. David Greenwell is employed by the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture as an irrigation worker. He previously served a full term as a member of the 1-lawai'i County Water Board. Mr. Greenwell is a Boy Scouts of America Leader, and a board member of the Waimea Community Association. He states that he is a member of the Republican Party, if confirmed, he will fill a vacant term to end December 31, 2020. Following his introduction, Mr. Greenwell stated that he looks forward to being a part of the Liquor Commission, given his experience with the Water Board. He continued to share that he is willing to learn, serve, and show up. Ms. Wille urged support for this nomination, as Mr. Greenwell is her constituent and she was able to witness Mr. Greenwell's capabilities, commitment and dedication to his community through his involvement with the Waimea Community Association. Your Committee agreed that Mr. Greenwell is not required to appear at final confirmation before the full Council, but was extended the invitation to attended if so desired.
