RESOLUTION NO. 646 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FRIENDS OF
LILI`UOKALANI GARDENS FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENT OF
LILI`UOKALANI GARDENS.
WHEREAS, the construction of Lili`uokalani Gardens in Hilo began in 1917 with the
assistance of Queen Lili`uokalani, Hilo Fujin Shinkokai, and Mrs. C.C. Kennedy; and
WHEREAS, thousands of visitors and residents participate in a variety of activities and
community events at Lili`uokalani Gardens, including the Queen Lili`uokalani Festival; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Lili`uokalani Gardens, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is
working with the County to prepare for a year-long centennial celebration of the establishment of
the gardens by assisting with repairing, improving, and maintaining Lili`uokalani Gardens; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Lili`uokalani Gardens is requesting funds for the purchase of
materials, supplies, and other miscellaneous items needed for the maintenance and improvement
of Lili`uokalani Gardens in preparation for the centennial celebration in 2017; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Friends of Lili`uokalani
Gardens for the maintenance and improvement of Lili`uokalani Gardens; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
