RESOLUTION NO. 653 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIG ISLAND
MEDIATION INC. FOR ITS PEER MEDIATION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Big Island Mediation Inc., doing business as (d/b/a) West Hawai`i
Mediation Center, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower
individuals, organizations, and communities to deal with conflict by providing mediation,
facilitation, and education services; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports West Hawai`i Mediation
Center and its Peer Mediation Program that helps students from kindergarten to high school by
providing conflict resolution and peer mediation training; and
WHEREAS, peer mediation is both a program and a process where students of the same
age group facilitate resolving disputes between two of their peers; and
WHEREAS, West Hawai`i Mediation Center is requesting funds for supplies, training
materials, and miscellaneous expenses associated with a mediator recognition ceremony for its
Peer Mediation Program; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Big Island Mediation Inc. d/b/a West
Hawai`i Mediation Center for expenses associated with its Peer Mediation Program; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and the Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
