Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 1073, reports as follows:
Communication No. 1073, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated September 14, 2016,
nominates Ms. Michele Luahiwa Namahoe, of Council District 4 to the Hawai`i County Merit Appeals
Board.
Ms. Namahoe was introduced by T. Ilihia Gionson, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, and requested
Council's favorable action of this appointment. Mr. Gionson stated that if Ms. Namahoe is confirmed,
she would fill a vacant term that will expire on December 31, 2020, and that she is not affiliated with
any political party.
Nominee Namahoe was present and expressed that it would be an honor to serve on the Merit Appeals
Board. Several Council Members spoke in favor of her nomination.
Chair Eoff informed Ms. Namahoe that she did not need to appear before the full Council for
confirmation and thanked her for her willingness to serve.
Pursuant to Section 7-1.2. of the Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a Merit Appeals Board, which
shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 1073, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Michele Luahiwa Namahoe to the Hawai`i County
Merit Appeals Board.
