RESOLUTION NO. 693 16
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE
FUTURE FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE HULA PERFORMANCES OF NA
KUPUNA 0 KOHALA.
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports
senior programs and activities, such as hula at the North Kohala Senior Center, which is also the
halau for Na Kupuna 0 Kohala; and
WHEREAS, Na Kupuna 0 Kohala has performed numerous times in community
gatherings, competitions, and cultural events around Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, Na Kupuna 0 Kohala does year-round fundraising to help defray expenses
related to its performances and competitions, but is in need of additional funds to offset the costs
for supplies, equipment, bus transportation, hula attire, musicians, and other related expenses;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Friends of the Future for expenses
related to the hula performances of Na Kupuna 0 Kohala; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
