Your Committee on Planning,to which was referred Communication No. 1096, reports as follows:
Communication No. 1096, submitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated September 27, 2016, nominates
Yumi T. Kawano to the Puna Community Development Plan Action Committee, for a four-year term to
end on December 20, 2020.
Ms. Kawano was introduced by Ilihia Gionson, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi.
Speaking by videoconference from Hilo, Ms. Kawano said she felt honored to be able to serve. She said
she was looking forward to understanding all of Puna's needs.
Ms. Wille said she would support the nomination and is glad to see the Puna CDP Action Committee is
being filled.
Mr. Paleka thanked Ms. Kawano for her service. He said her background was very impressive and he
wished her the best. Mr. Paleka said there is a lot of work to be done in the Puna area.
Mr. Ilagan said he is glad to have a Volcano Village resident on the Action Committee.
Ms. Kawano was informed that she is not required to be present for Council confirmation.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 1096, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Yumi T. Kawano to the Puna Community
Development Plan Action Committee.
