Your Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability, to which was referred
Communication No. 1101, reports as follows:
Communication No. 1101, transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated September 29, 2016,
nominates Ms. Teresa L. Nakama of Council District 8 to the County of Hawai`i Game
Management Advisory Commission. Ms. Nakama is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i and is
employed by Securitas as a Standing Guard.
Ms. Nakama is Chair of the West Hawai`i Aha Moku, Director of the Big Island Fisheries
Alliance, and a member of the Kona Hawaiian Civic Club. She states that she is a
Democrat. If confirmed, she will serve the remainder of a term to end on December 31, 2019,
replacing Mark C. Bartell, who resigned.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Ilihia Gionson introduced Ms. Nakama, who was present in
Kailua- Kona. She stated that she is ready to step up and be an advocate for the people and
resources. Council Members expressed their gratitude for her willingness to volunteer and their
confidence in her ability to voice her opinions.
Ms. Nakama's attendance is not required for the full Council confirmation.
Your Committee on Agriculture, Water and Energy Sustainability is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Communication 1101 and recommends confirmation of the appointment of
Ms. Teresa L. Nakama to the County of Hawai`i Game Management Advisory Commission.
