RESOLUTION NO. 728 16
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL'S HEARTFELT
GRATITUDE TO COUNCIL MEMBER DENNIS "FRESH" ONISHI FOR HIS YEARS
OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi represented Council District 4 in
his 2008-2010 and 2010-2012 council terms; and
WHEREAS, due to redistricting, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi was placed in
Council District 3 and has represented Council District 3 for the 2012-2014 and 2014-2016
council terms; and
WHEREAS, during the past eight years, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi has
served as Chair of the Committee on Finance (2008-2010), Chair of the Committee on Food and
Energy Sustainability (2008-2010), Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Safety and Parks and
Recreation (2008-2010), Chair of the Committee on Economic Development and Mass Transit
(2010-2012), Chair of the Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development
(2012-2014 and 2014-2016), Vice Chair of the Committee on Public Works and Parks and
Recreation (2012-2014 and 2014-2016), and Chair of the Committee on Environmental
Management(2014-2016); and
WHEREAS, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi has admirably took on additional
leadership roles as a legislator by serving as Vice Chair of the Hawai`i County Housing Agency,
an officer on the Executive Committee of the Hawai`i State Association of Counties (HSAC),
and board member of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi has represented Hawai`i Island
honorably during his employment with the County of Hawai`i, which has spanned more than
20 years; and
WHEREAS, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi has consistently demonstrated
unwavering dedication, strong leadership, and outstanding public service to the residents of
Hawai`i Island, especially to his constituents; and
WHEREAS, Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi will complete his term of office at
noon on Monday, December 5, 2016, having compiled an exemplary attendance and voting
record for all Council and Committee meetings held during his years in office; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it
hereby extends its sincerest gratitude to Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi for all of his
years of service to the County of Hawai`i and offers its best wishes for his continued health,
success, happiness, and good fortune in his personal and professional life.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to Council Member Dennis "Fresh" Onishi.
