Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 259, reports as follows:
Bill No. 259, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi via Communication No. 1155 dated October 24,
2016, amends Section 25-8-33 (City of Hilo Zone Map), Article 8, Chapter 25 (Zoning Code) of the
Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition) by changing the district classification from Single Family
Residential— 10,000 Square Feet (RS-10)to Neighborhood Commercial— 10,000 Square Feet (CN-10)
at Waiakea Homesteads House Lots, Waiakea, Hawaii, covered by Tax Map Key: 2-2-040:108. The
applicant is Kristen Mahnke, and the subject parcel covers approximately 16,315 square feet. The
applicant intends to develop an approximately 3,000 square foot single-story office building for either
rental or personal use.
The Windward Planning Commission, at its duly held public hearing on October 6, 2016, concurred
with the Planning Director's favorable recommendation.
Mr. Onishi voiced his support of this rezoning, which is in his district. There was no discussion.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 259, and recommends
its passage on first reading.
