Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 268,
reports as follows:
Bill No. 268,transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication
No. 1178 dated September 29, 2016, amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1, of the Hawai`i
County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to speed limits.
The bill amends Schedule 8 (45 mile per hour limit)by revising a portion of Kuakini Highway,
Subsection(f), Kona.
Chair Kanuha, who is in support Bill No. 268, shared that this area is very congested and
suggested adding flashing lights to indicate the digression of speed due to how populated the
area is and the amount of people going mauka and makai.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 268, and recommends its passage on first reading.
