Thank you for this opportunity to provide testimony today on Resolution 568-16, Brooke Derby
which supports the principles of the United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of All Christine Hijirida
Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). We are planning members of the Hawaii Deb Lewis
Deanna J.K. Kackley
Island Women's Leadership Forum and we are in strong support of Resolution 568-16 for Mele Spencer
many reasons,two of which are the elimination of gender discrimination and inequality.
CHARTER GROUP
Moved by a passion to support women on Hawai'i Island, a group of us women MEMBERS
leaders started meeting in 2014 to discuss how we can support and encourage each other on Krista Anderson
our island. Our conversations led us to create the Hawai`i Island Women's Leadership Forum. Irene Carpenter
The mission of our Forum is to "empower women through knowledge, strength and Heidi Dangaran
community" and our vision is to grow a series of activities and events,to include an annual Sulma Gandhi
Cerelle Gooding
Summit,that will nurture women on all levels of leadership and contribute to building a Charlene Iboshi

Thanks to the generous support of all of you,we were able to offer our 2nd Annual Stacey Nail-Canedy
Hawai'i Island Women's Leadership Summit two Fridays ago at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Katie Nova

of the resolution on hand and we spoke with many women throughout the day. In

information about CEDAW and we collected the attached 120+signatures of other women Dena Ellis

through this testimony in support of Resolution 586-16,to be a voice for many other women in Hawai'i
