Aloha,
I write in support of Resolution 568-16 -United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination Against Women. I have spent close to two decades researching gender and economic
development, the rights of women workers, in the US, and in Caribbean and Mediterranean contexts, and
transnational feminism. and will be pursuing such research in Hawai'i shortly.
Time and again it has been proven that government resolutions and public statements that resolutely oppose
discriminatory practices can facilitate remedying these injustices. Foremost the passage of CEDAW by the
County of Hawai'i will give recognition to both women's personal experiences and the breadth of social science
research that demonstrates gender discrimination exists here in Hawai'i, in the US, and globally.
