Hawaii is supposed to be Paradise. A friend was following a truck spraying Roundup. Her car windows were rolled down. She had no idea that it was dangerous, until her lungs were burning and she had breathing difficulties. The Roundup damaged her protective mucous lining and that day was the beginning of her becoming allergic to everything and suffering greatly from asthma, dizziness, headaches and chronic fatigue. The Material Safety Data Sheet prepared by three companies who supply Monsanto with Isopropylamine says the active ingredient in Roundup is very toxic to humans. Toxicological Information under acute effects: "Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Material is extremely destructive to tissue of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract, eyes, and skin. Inhalation may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation and edema of the larynx and bronchi, chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema, etc." According to OSHA, this product is hazardous. Since all of us are not able to wear protective gear, how can we avoid injury if it is sprayed along a roadside? People walk their dogs. People go biking. Families enjoy a stroll in the fresh air. Roundup should be banned in the U.S. like it is in some countries. Too many people and animals have been injured by this dangerous chemical. It is intended to kill weeds, but kills much more. The county employee who once sprayed Roundup around park fence lines on Kauai died a couple years after a diagnosis of ALS. I believe the chemical attacked his neurological system. Do the right thing. I pray that all of Hawaii will change to a safer product for weed control. Maybe we just need additional money in the budget for extra mowers. "People first. Then things." Think about it as you fall asleep tonight. Do you want to make the world a better place? Many blessings, L PeggyComm. No. Kadey Ref. To: clis1u- o.f Date OCT 04 2016 1
