Recommended by the Hawaii Island Packaging Sustainability Initiative Stakeholders Task Force"
Testimony By: Dexter Yamada,Joy Gold

Chair Onishi, Vice Chair Wille, and Members of the Committee:
Dexter Yamada is President of KYD Inc, doing business as K Yamada Distributors. I am Joy Gold, consultant to
Dexter Yamada and KYD, Inc. KYD, Inc. is a locally founded, family run business in Kalihi. KYD, Inc. began in
the 1940's as a florist and a supplier of florist supplies. In 1958 it evolved into the packaging company it is
today and later expanded into a distributor of many other fine products. KYD, Inc and its sister company,
Hawaii Foam Products, LLC provide jobs to about 90—100 men and women and contribute much to Hawaii's
economy in the form of payroll and taxes.
Support is expressed for this resolution that encourages the County to join two private sector-driven programs
that are for litter prevention to keep the land and waters of Hawaii clean. By pledging to and implementing
Malama 808,the County keeps litter management top of mind and reduces "fly-away" litter that makes its
way to the waterways and roadsides.
Litterati can become a data base for Hawaii Island that will pin-point litter hot-spots and most importantly,
assist the County and others to target specific geographic locations and types of litter reduction needed. It
should be noted that in addition to collecting the digital photos and uploading it to Litterati,the photographer
should also dispose of the rubbish.
