RESOLUTION NO. 27 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE HAMAKUA SENIORS FIRE SAFETY
EDUCATION FAIR.
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Elderly Activities Division
(EAD), has identified the need for funds to provide a fire safety education fair for members of
the Hamakua senior clubs and nutrition clubs; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai`i Fire Department's Fire Prevention Bureau, through a
partnership with the EAD, will educate, give presentations and provide resources to the seniors
about home fire safety inspections, fire education, smoke alarm installation and replacement, and
fall prevention; and
WHEREAS, this fair will reach many of those who are at risk considering most of
Hawai`i Island's elderly live in homes that were built prior to 1991, and the building code at the
time did not require smoke detectors thus leaving them vulnerable in the event of a fire; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recereation, Elderly Activities Division, for miscellaneous expenses associated with
the Hamakua Seniors Fire Safety Education Fair.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council hereby transfers/appropriates
the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
