Date PI(l 0 2 -- 1 1 November 2016 Aloha Honorable Councilmembers of the Hawai'l County Council: My name is Kainalu Lewis, I am 14 years old and I have been playing soccer for Na Hoa o Puna Soccer for nearly five years. It has been a privilege to play with Na Hoa o Puna especially because of a special Coach, Uncle Buddy Perry. I believe that the soccer fields at Herbert Shipman Park should be named after Coach Buddy Perry because he was a man that truly had the passion for soccer. He has trained really good players and he was someone who never gave up or backed down on a challenge. He always cared about the kids and always wanted to make them the best soccer players they could be. He was also a great inspiration for everyone. Even when he was going through difficult times with his health, he always kept a smile on his face. He loved his community and that is why I think the soccer fields at Herbert Shipman Park should be named after my Uncle, Coach Buddy Perry. Aloha, .t F09 cLoto.:1.0 Kainalu Lewis 1 Nowemapa 2016 Ke aloha no e Na 'Elele Hanohano a ka Hawai'l County Council: My name is Kaipua'ala Crabbe and I am writing in support of Bill 53, sponsored by Councilman Paleka, to rename the soccer fields at Herbert Shipman Park, "Buddy Perry Soccer Field." Buddy Perry loved sports. Buddy Perry loved soccer. Buddy Perry loved life. Buddy Perry loved his family. Buddy Perry loved our keiki. Buddy Perry loved his community. Through the thick and thin of what life offered him, Buddy Perry maintained his resiliency. After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease,through perseverance and strong support, Buddy created Na Hoa o Puna Soccer Club and shared his knowledge with as many youth and 'Ohana as possible. He surrounded himself with wonderful coaches who continues his legacy and Na Hoa o Puna continues to thrive with such a great foundation he set for us. Buddy was a dedicated individual, a man of passion who lived up to his word. He was a superb role model for our youth. As Buddy's illness progressed, he continued to coach but it became difficult for him to vocalize as his speech difficult to understand. Nonetheless, at the end of practice, you would see him at Shipman Park soccer field surrounded by all of the players, from ages 4-18. These players may not have understood one word he said, and may have had to get a translation from a fellow player, but all gave Coach Buddy their undivided attention and embraced the opportunity to feel that mana and respect that Buddy embodied. My'Ohana has known Buddy since he moved from Maui in the 1990s and we are blessed that he has coached and mentored our keiki and so many more in our community. He was a warrior in making Puna a healthier community by offering life skill lessons through soccer with the understanding that overall, we are an `ohana as Na Hoa o Puna,the Friends of Puna. We honorably continue livinghis vision. I thank you for your attention to this matter and I thank you in advance for supporting Bill 53. County Council: My name is Ka'aina'olu Lewis, I am 17 years old and I have been playing soccer for Na Hoa o Puna Soccer for nearly five years but I have known Coach Buddy my whole life. Herbert Shipman Park would be lucky to have their soccer fields named after Coach Buddy Perry. He represents the true meaning of hard work, respect and the true will to never give up. It would mean a lot to the community to see these fields named after someone we as youth look up to and wish to be like, Coach Buddy Perry. He has touched many lives from our Kupuna to our Keiki and even those from beyond the Puna District as well. Mahal()for reading this and I hope Bill 253 sponsored by Councilman Paleka passes.
