I would like to submit my thoughts on the nomination of Joe Kamelamela to be the next Corporation Counsel of Hawaii
County. I worked with Joe for almost 8 years during my tenure as Corporation Counsel. During those years, I learned
several things about his character and a
1. Joe is industrious. If one saw the lights on in the Corporation Counsel office after dark, it was usually in Joe's office.
2. Whereas most of our lawyers hesitated to undertake a case that looked either too hard or a likely loser, Joe would
willingly do so. If it was in an area with which he was not familiar, he would study that area until he was ready to do an
admirable job for the County, be it in eminent domain or the specialized field of collecting on a construction bond.
3.Joe has integrity. When he is right, he is willing to withstand political pressure from the Mayor or elsewhere and stand
by his principles.
For these and many other reasons, I urge you to act favorably on his nomination.
