Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 37, reports as follows:
Communication No. 37, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated December 14, 2016, nominates
Ms. Mae Satsuko Ikeda of Council District 4 to the Hawai`i County Pension Board.
Ms. Ikeda was introduced by Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, and requested
Council's favorable action of this appointment. Ms. Bautista stated that if Ms. Ikeda is
confirmed, she will fill a term that will expire December 31, 2021, and that she is not affiliated
with any political party.
Nominee Ikeda was present and expressed that it would be an honor to serve on the Pension
Board. Several Council Members spoke in favor of her nomination.
Chair David informed councilmembers that during recess she advised Ms. Ikeda she did not need
to appear before the full Council for confirmation and noted the same for the record.
Pursuant to Section 6-6.4 of the Hawai`i County Charter, there shall be a Pension Board, which
shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 37, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mae Satsuko Ikeda to the Hawaii County
Pension Board.
