Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 38, reports as follows:
Communication No. 38, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated December 13, 2016, nominates
Mr. Jerry Hamamoto of Council District 3 to the Hawai`i County Pension Board.
Mr. Hamamoto was introduced by Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, and
requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. Ms. Bautista stated that if
Mr. Hamamoto is confirmed, he will fill a term that will expire on December 31, 2021, and that
he is not affiliated with any political party.
Nominee Hamamoto was present and expressed that it would be an honor to serve on the Pension
Board. Several Council Members spoke in favor of his nomination.
Chair David informed councilmembers that during recess she advised Mr. Hamamoto he did not
need to appear before the full Council for confirmation and noted the same for the record.
Pursuant to Section 6-6.4 of the Hawai`i County Charter, there shall be a Pension Board, which
shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 38,
and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Jerry Hamamoto to the Hawai`i County
Pension Board.
