SY Os M� <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />rcs•N►'• <br />RESOLUTION NO. 48 17 <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO APPROPRIATE <br />FUNDS TO PURCHASE AN ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT AMBULANCE AND <br />EQUIPMENT, AND TO EMPLOY STATE -CERTIFIED EMERGENCY MEDICAL <br />SERVICE PERSONNEL FOR THE MAKALEI FIRE STATION AND DANIEL R. SAYRE <br />WEST HAWAII FIRE TRAINING CENTER. <br />WHEREAS, the Makalei Fire Station and Daniel R. Sayre West Hawaii Fire Training <br />Center (Makalei Fire Station) in North Kona has been operating since 2012 serving residents and <br />visitors of the growing North Kona area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Makalei Fire Station is not equipped or staffed with an advanced life <br />support ambulance; and <br />WHEREAS, an advanced life support ambulance with personnel dispatched from <br />Makalei will reduce the probability of death and disability, by increasing the timely response and <br />ability to render effective aid to 911 calls, both of which are of paramount importance to <br />successful outcomes from life-threatening incidents and sickness; and <br />WHEREAS, the general and aging population in the North Kona area has increased <br />quickly and significantly creating a greater need for services, which is compounded by broad <br />geographical transportation challenges as well as a severe lack of emergency medical service <br />resources; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />Hawaii State Legislature is strongly urged to appropriate funds to purchase an advanced life <br />support ambulance and equipment, and to employ state -certified emergency medical service <br />personnel for the Makalei Fire Station and Daniel R. Sayre West Hawaii Fire Training Center, <br />for the fiscal year 2017-2018. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor of the State of Hawaii is urged to <br />release funds to purchase an advanced life support ambulance and equipment, and to employ <br />state -certified emergency medical service personnel for the Makalei Fire Station and Daniel R. <br />Sayre West Hawaii Fire Training Center, for the fiscal year 2017-2018. <br />
