RESOLUTION NO. 52 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII ISLAND
UNITED WAY FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS COMMUNITY OUTREACH
INITIATIVE.
WHEREAS, Hawaii Island United Way ("HIUW") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization whose mission is to unite people, organizations, and resources to build a healthier
community; and
WHEREAS, HIUW is committed to advancing the common good of all by focusing on
community transformation in the areas of education, income, and health by collaborating with
many community partners to create healthy communities; and
WHEREAS, through its community outreach initiative, HIUW promotes awareness of
the 54 health and human service programs being offered through its partner agencies and urges
the community to donate to the many programs that provide assistance to over 75% of Hawaii
Island families and individuals each year; and
WHEREAS, HIUW is requesting funds to assist with expenses relating to its community
outreach initiative, which includes website improvements and the purchase of advertising
material, such as banners, shirts, hats, stickers, and pens aimed to encourage donations to the
many service programs offered through its community partners; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that
promote the health, safety, and welfare of the community; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Hawaii Island United Way to assist with expenses relating
to its community outreach initiative.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
