I feel negligent that I have not responded to the various letters in
the newspaper or to state my opinion about the police scandal trial. I
was a proud member of the police family, as my husband was a
police officer for 27 yeas and retired as a police captain. He retired
because of cancer and passed away shortly thereafter.
What happened with promotions was nothing new, but the blame
seems to be taken away from the person who was the cancer in the
department. For many years, we all used to joke about promotions
on the "family plan" with chief Guy Paul My husband was a good
man and respected by his fellow officers. Chief Paul seemed
determined to "get" him any way he could.
When he was a new sergeant, Chief Paul called him into his office to
say that he and his wife had seen me shopping at J C Penney and I
did not say hello to them. 1 honestly didn't see them (I had known
Guy Paul and his family long before I met my future husband.) This
was the kind of thing Chief Paul thought was important. As
punishment my husband was transferred to Kohala, away from our
family of six, except on weekends. Family life was not important to
Chief Paul.

How can two or three officers receive compensation for the same
position when only one could be promoted? Didn't some of them ever
realize that maybe they didn't deserve promotions?
How was Guy Paul able to work out a deal with SHOPO? That whole
"deal" just has a huge odor to it.
The bottom line is that anyone with intelligence should realize the
depatment is run by the chief and he has the last word on
promotions. Why are good men who were under his orders having to
take the rap now... years later?
Thank you for allowing me to voice my concerns. Surely this case wil
be appealed to a higher court.
