The following are the recommendations of the Planning,
Economic Development and Legislative Committee which were
considered at its meeting of March 2$, 1969 :

from the members of the Council so that the
Department can make recommendations on methods,
techniques or means by which the housing problem
can be alleviated :

Transmits for information House Bill 12$ which
relates to the new general hospital at Kau and
pertains to employees transfer, benefits, and
citizenship.
Section 7 relates to an additional sum of $473, 131
to supplement a previous appropriation for.

Re: -16/PEDLC-4 - Tourist Tax -- Transmits for the
Council's information a copy of House Bill 100 which
imposes a S2.00 per day tax on each room or unit in
a hotel in. this State.
Also informs that House Bills 100, 517, and 621 and
Senate Bill 572 are similar and relate to the
imposition of a hotel room tax and further legis-
lation relating to tourism may be introduced :

Transmits agenda for public hearings of the Senate
Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Conservation:

RECOMMENDATIONS
No. 1: Special Taxing Powers
Request the legislators from this island to initiate
legislation that will provide the County of Hawaii
with special taxing powers .
AMENDED 2 : Aku Fishing Project
— — Recommend to the Mayor the inclusion of $50,000 in
cash or kind for the aku fishing projectin the
1969-70 budget .

No. 3 : Taxi Meter Ordinance
Recommend that the Corporation Counsel draw up a
resolution requesting the Police Department and
the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to withhold
enforcement of Ordinance No . 204 until after
May 15, 1969.
AMENDED 4 : Senate Concurrent Resolution No . 44, Relating to
the Seizure and Holding of Any Motor Vehicle After.
March 31, 1969
Recommends support of the bill.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Recommend to the Mayor the inclusion of $50,000 in
cash or kind for the aku fishing project in the
1969-70 budget contingent upon priority and concurrent
action of the Legislature.
No. 4: Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 44, Relating to the
Seizure and Holding of Any Motor Vehicle After
March 31, 1969
Recommends support of the Resolution and that the
County of Hawaii extend the registration of vehicle
and safety inspection to April 30, 1969 and that the

The Hawaii County Council ' Committee on Planning, Economic
Development and Legislation has approved State Senate Concurrent
Resolution 44 providing for the extension of the deadline for
motor vehicle safety inspection and registration to April 30,
• 1969. Official action will be taken on Wednesday April 2, 1969 •
when the Council will hold its next meeting.
•
The Committee ask that you delay impounding cars without
proper safety stickers and license plates after •March 31, 1969 •
pending Council' s official action on April 2, 1969.
