Boshard to the Planning Director expressing the feeling of the Planning Commission in regard to the proposed amendment to the Subdivision Ordinance No. 62: 1) Ordinance should be more flexible in areas outside of Hilo (rural) . 2) Sidewalk construction should be made more flexible so as to capitalize on aesthetic quality. 3) Sidewalk requirements should be made more stringent in areas of higher density as light industrial, commercial and resort areas. Scheiderich, Partner, Orchid Island Hotel, submits a copy of Governor Burns' reply to his letter concerning the future of Hilo ' s Lyman Field: Receive and file. Comm. 995: STREET NAME FOR ACCESS ROAD TO KEALAKEHE SCHOOL AND THE STATE HOUSING PROJECT, KEALAKEHE, NORTH KONA, HAWAII Planning Commission Chairman Anthony C. Veriato submits Resolution No . 271 for adoption to legally name the street "Kealakaa Street, " which means rolling pathway: Adopt Resolution No. 271. -c- Comm. 996: /M-168 - PROHIBITING DR INK 1NG ON THE KA ILUA SEAWALL Assistant Corporation Counsel reports on the above motion and submits for consideration a draft of a bill for an ordinance amending Ordinance 284 to prohibit drinking on public highways, public sidewalks and public seawalls. (Bill No. 728) Approve and recommend passage of Bill 728 on first reading. Comm. 998: STREET NAMES - ALAE SUBDIVISION ALAE, SOUTH HILO, HAWAII Planning Commission Chairman Anthony C. Veriato submits for adoption Resolution No . 272 to legally name the streets "Nahala Street" and "Kahoa Street. " Adopt Resolution No . 272. ORDINANCES () /Se,f) Bill 722: BUS TRANSPORTATION Comm. 957: Councilman James Souza transmits for consideration and recommendation a proposed bill for an ordinance regulating common carriers of passengers in the city of Hilo , County of Hawaii, and creating a county transportation commission: Refer to the Committee of the Whole to hold a special meeting with interested parties and organizations to discuss the County' s transportation problems, needs and concerns on Sept. 15, 1970, at 7: 30 p.m. in the County Councilroom. Bill 707: An Ordinance to Control and Regulate the Manner of Using Fireworks; to Repeal Ordinance No. 28, Revised Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1967, as amended; and to Provide Penalties for the Violation Thereof: y ® • PEDLC-37 - 3 - September 3, 1970 Comm. 709.4: Mrs. DeWitt Smith endorses Council ' s efforts to control the use of fireworks. 709,5: Chief of Police Ernest J. Lewis informs that the Kilauea Council concurs with Bill 707. 709®7: Chief of Police Fergerstrom recommends amendments to Bill 707 for consideration. A°,-0'- 709.8: William J. Bonk, Associate Professor of Anthropology, informs he is not in favor of Bill 707 as', written. --e- 709.9: County Clerk transmits a news clipping from the Kona Times presented and filed by Mr. Dan Carmichael during his testimony at the public hearing on July 15, 1970. Keifer transmits an article from the June issue of "Today' s Health" published by the American Medical Association on injuries from use of fireworks. 709.12: PEDLC Chairman transmits for information and review copies of the fireworks ordinances of the counties of Maui and Kauai.
