REZONING OF TMK: 7-7-04:12, 51 & 52 (Bill No . 686) Amends the Kailua-Honalo Urban Zone Map by changing the district classification from Resort Hotel (V-1.25) to Resort Hotel (V-.75) in Holualoa, N. Kona: Comm. 666.1 : Planning Director transmits a letter from Mr. Donn W. Carlsmith, attorney for Pruss Corporation & Winegardner, Inc. informing that his client is not in any way inter- ested in pursuing the application for rezoning any further: Received and file; file Bill 686. Comm. 672: TAXICAB STUDY George Correa, President, Big Island Taxi Drivers Assn. requests the following regarding the action of SIDA of Hawaii, Inc. : 1) that the County set a limit on the number of taxi PA drivers on the Island of Hawaii; g4 2) that a meeting with the Council be arranged to • discuss this matter further: PT4 '672.1 : Legislative Auditor submits as per request his report on the subject matter: '672.2: Deputy Corporation Counsel Albert Jeremiah, Jr. advises that to limit and to control the number of taxi operators in the County falls within the powers of a municipality: Axt, 6- 672.3: Taxi organizations on the island of Hawaii recommends that part-time cab drivers be drivers and not owners of individual taxi companies. " Comm. 885: HEIGHT LIMITATION IN KONA Alan Tyler, President, Kona Conservation Group, requests that the Council put into effect immedi- ately a blanket ordinance for all of Kona limiting the height of all buildings to 3 stories with a 4th story variance: 885.1: Gibson M. & Catherine M. Gray ask that the Council make every effort to limit the height of buildings to 3 stories in Kailua-Kona, Keauhou and adjacent areas: x.ec6- 885.2: Major Deane H. Lees, USAF (ret. ) , President, Kona Chamber of Commerce asks that the Council, the Planning Department, and Planning Commission view the problem of height limitation and institute immediate requirements on a basis of decreased allowable density, wider setbacks, and possibly a height limit of 5 to 6 stories: • 4A, C - 890: Mr. & Mrs. L. W. Bryan requests consideration for a 3-story height limitation on Alii Drive close to the Islander Inn and the Catholic Church: Act- 6 - 1003: Mr. & Mrs. William A. Ullmer - recommends three stories for all of Kona: 1007: Minoru Inaba - supports three-story limitation with a variance of additional story: 4gc, 6- 1008: Margaret Harris, Secretary, Kona Senior Citizens ' Club - endorses three-story limitation for proposed condominium next to Mokuaikaua Church: 1009:" Mrs. William F. Robertson - urges a three-story limitation in Kailua-Kona and that the County buy or obtain a long lease on the Thurston property next to the Mo.kuaikaua Church: 1010: L. W. & Irma C. Bryan - urges a three-story limitation in Kailua-Kona and that a moratorium be declared on permits on Alii Drive between King Kamehameha and Hilton: 1011: Councilman Sherwood R. H. Greenwell - transmits copies of letters from Mrs. C. B. Riordan and Mr. James Bock to the Planning Department requesting height limitation in Kailua and Keauhou: 4L, C.- 1014: Dudley Child Jr. , President, Inter-Island Resorts - urges passage of ordinance for a three-story height limitation in Kailua-Kona: a PEDLC-39 - 3 - September 16, 1970 k„ e- Comm. 1015: William S. Kawahara - points out that reducing the height limitation in Kona at this time will have an immediate and increasing adverse effect on the growth and economy of Kona. C - 1020: Howard J. Marsh, President , Kona-Post Corporation - strongly urges that any consideration with regards to height limitation in the Keauhou area be treated as a separate matter from height limitation in Kailua- Kona and that a separate hearing be held at a later date after the interested parties are given sufficient time to prepare a reasonable presentation of their position: 4_«, C- 1021 : Robert I. Bush, Oberlander, Bush & Cave - supports, the proposed height reductions for Kailua but requests omission of zoning changes at Keauhou for the present and submits justifications for the retention of a seven story height limit for Keauhou through explicit criteria: � c -1022: Planning Director submits the action taken by the Planning Commission at its meeting of September 10, 1970 : t-1023: Guido L. Giacometti, Vice President, Kamehameha Development Corporation - supports legislation which would reduce allowable heights within the Kailua area but requests that height limits at Keauhou be con- sidered on its own merits: SSU Pet. 16: Petition (245 signatures) to lower the height limitation in Kailua and Keauhou from seven to three stories with a one-story variance : � �. 16.1 : Mrs. William Bergin - requests three-story limitation in hotels, apartments, condominiums, etc. Received and filed.
