Receive and file. No. 1778: COMMENTS ON H. R. 11774 From Planning Director dated January 6, 1972, informing that the administration proposes to support H. R. 11774 with suggested amendments and to offer an alternative method to accomplish the intent of the bill. C- 1778.1: From Planning Director dated January 13, 1972, submitting for information the report "Examination and Evaluation of Fishponds on the Leeward Coast of the Island of Hawaii" prepared by William K. Kikuchi and John C. Belshe for their department. Also submits the testimony presented by the County Administration before the Subcommittee on National Parks and Recreation, House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, on H. R. 11774 and H. R. 1462. Support the suggested alternative made by the Planning Director that a solution to the Honokohau area might be best achieved by a joint planning effort between the National Park Service, the State and County governments, the Hawaiian community and property owners. Ace. Pet. 25: KEAUKAHA - NO HIGH RISES A petition containing approximately 3, 700 signatures requesting: (1) Keaukaha area between the dock and King's Landing be used for homes , parks and open spaces, not hotels, high rise apartments and condominiums; and (2) Demands County condemn 1.45 acre parcel of land next to James Kealoha Park known as Carlsmith' s and purchase it for use as a park instead of allowing hotel and high rise apartment construction there as currently planned Item (1) - Indicate to the petitioners that the Council feels that it would be inappropriate to zone the area between the dock and King's Landing for homes , parks and open spaces only and that there are other types of uses that the Council feels are compatible.
