HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP PEDLC 080 06/15/1972 1969-1972 PLANNING, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE REPORT NO 80 Councilmen County of Hawaii Hilo, Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Planning, Economic Development and Legislative Committee which were considered at its meeting of June 15, 1972: COMMUNICATIONS �No. 1665.7: OHIA DECLINE From Sunao Kido, Chairman, Dept. of Land and Natural Resources, dated May 22, 1972, transmitting a news release from the Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station on a research grant to Bishop Museum for $18,500 to study beetles which attack native koa and ohia trees on the island of Hawaii. Receive and file, and thank Mr. Kido for keeping the Council posted on' the progress of the ohia problem. No. 1989: POTENTIAL GEOLOGIC HAZARDS From Donald W. Peterson, Scientist-in-Charge, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, dated May 23, 1972, submitting. a brief summary describing the general nature of potential hazards to man provided by geological processes on this island in five principal categories: (1) volcanic activity, (2) earthquakes, (3) ground cracks, (4) land subsidence, and (5) tsunamis. Receive and file. Thank Mr. Peterson for bringing the concerns to the attention of the Council and commend the Planning Director for including these concerns in the General Plan. Bosshard, West Hawaii Committee, dated May 24, 1972, requesting the following Charter amendment: Let it be resolved that the county council initiate a change of the county charter to allow six members of the council to be elected within the six districts, and three members of the council to be elected at large, for terms of four years. Refer to the Ad Hoc Committee on Charter Review. Xr,,c, No. 1997: REZONING REQUEST - NYKD COMPANY WAIAKEA HOMESTEADS, WAIAKEA, SOUTH HILO (TMK: 2-4-3: 37) From Planning Commission dated May 31; 1972, submitting for adoption Bill 882 to change the district classification for approximately 10.0 acres of land situated in Waiakea Homesteads, Waiakea, South Hilo, from agricultural (A-la) to single-family residential (RS-15) zoned district. Approve and recommend passage of Bill 882 on first reading. , No. 1998: REZONING REQUEST - IWAO JYO/YUKIO YAMAMOTO HAMANAMANA, NORTH KONA (TMK: 7-3-03: 5) From Planning Commission dated May 31, 1972, submitting for adoption Bill 883 to -change the district classification for approximately 27.64 acres of land situated in Hamanamana, North Kona, from an Unplanned (U) to an Agriculture (A-la) zoned district. Approve and recommend passage of Bill 883 on first reading. PEDLC-80 - 3 - June 15, 1972 4 No. 1999: REZONING REQUEST - CHIAKI KATO KEOPUKA, SOUTH KONA (TMK: 8-1-07:17) From Planning Commission dated May 31, 1972, submitting for adoption Bill 884 to change the district classification for approximately 4.30 acres of land situated in Keopuka, South Kona, from an agricultural (A-5a) to single-family residential (RS-10) zoned district. Approve and recommend passage of Bill 884 on first reading. Xec.- No. 2000: REZONING REQUEST - KID McCOY KILOA 1 and 2 AND WAIPUNAULA, SOUTH KONA (TMK: 8-2-03:por.l2) From Planning Commission dated May 31, 1972, submitting for adoption Bill 885 to change the district classification for approximately 1.295 acres of land situated in Kiloa 1 and 2 and Waipunaula, South Kona, from an agricultural (A-la) to neighborhood commercial (CN-7.5) zoned district. Approve and recommend passage of Bill 885 on first reading. 4 CM-324: MORATORIUM - HONOKOHAU HISTORICAL LANDMARK AREA Refer to PEDLC for consideration, the request at the June 7 Council meeting to declare a moratorium on the construction and dredging of the Honokohau Historical Landmark area.
