The following are the recommendations of the Planning, Economic
Development and Legislative Committee which were considered at its
meeting of September 20, 1972:
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 2099. 3: PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM
Mrs. Mary W. Earl dated September 7, 1972,
presenting petitions (No. 37) from the public
requesting a public transit system. Asks that
a public hearing be called as quickly as possible
with the Mayor and all representatives of the
County government and that the County consider
employing a transit manager as suggested by the
Voorhees study and recommended by the Research &
Development Department.
2099.4: From Mrs. W. Earl dated September 13 , 1972,
requesting publication of the results of the
Voorhees study and that a public hearing be held
on the plan. Requests that the public be shown
some sincere effort with results before election
and that the community be given a low-fare,
regularly scheduled bus system.

From Daniel Hata, President, Hilo County Farm
Bureau, dated September 8, 1972 , informing that the
State Department of Transportation has a request from
a developer to purchase 30, 000 tons of dredged coral
at Kawaihae Harbor to be used for subdivision roadways.
Feels that the requirements of the State Highways
Division for construction of the highway between
Kawaihae and Waimea, the HSPA for their sugar needs ,
and other agricultural needs (College of Tropical
Agriculture, UH) will deplete the estimated 1.,.300,000
tons of coral in a few years and solicits the Council' s
support on this matter to maintain their supply of
coral for agricultural use.
Support the Hilo County Farm
Bureau and recommend drafting
and passage of a resolution
supporting their position.

KEAUHOU 1st, NORTH KONA (TMK: 7-8-04:portion of 73 )
From Planning Commission dated September 7, 1972,
transmitting for adoption Bill 923 to change the
district classification from an Agricultural (A-5a)
to an Agricultural (A-la) zoned district at Keauhou
1st, North Kona.
Approve and recommend passage
of Bill 923 on first reading.
